What to use when you loose yours
I was traveling by plane and brought a crochet project along to pass the time. As luck would have it, I promptly lost my much needed stitch marker. And as everyone knows, it is very difficult in a plane seat to start looking for anything that may have dropped to the floor or in between the seats, especially something as small as a stitch marker. Thinking I’d have to abandoned the only project I had brought along for an 8 day cruise, I quickly searched my purse and surrounding area for an alternative. Eventually, I found a candy wrapper that I twisted into a small string like shape and slipped it between the stiches I needed to mark. It worked quite well until we got to a place where I could get into my cosmetic bag and pull out a bobby pin that worked even better. Recently, someone posed a question in a Facebook forum “what can I use in place of stitch holders”. Funny thing is, most people misunderstood the real question and started offering their suggestions for stitch marker replacements. Below are 11 of the most commonly used and not so commonly used items to use in place of a stitch marker and below that are 7 suggested items to use for stitch holders. My favorite was the “Barber cord” as a stitch holder. Having never heard of it before, I had to do an internet search and found an excellent video explaining it. I’ve included the link.
